Bon Appetit

September 15th, 2009

I’m home today dealing with an ear infection and just waiting for the meds to really kick in.  I wanted to share the 3rd project from my Stampin’ Up! Class last Friday.

class-sept-bon-apetit-jami-medium.jpg

This card is sized to fit into a small open ended envelope and it’s one of my favorite non-standard sizes to work with.  I just love this set – Compliments to the Chef – and had to use it for class.  This would make a great thank you card or invitation.  Tomorrow I’ll be back with a bunch of thank you cards I also made with this set.

Here I used Very Vanilla for the base as well as to stamp the images on.  The dp is Holiday Lounge and I think it’s great for stuff other than Christmas.  It’s got a very cool retro vibe.  I used Taken with teal ink and cardstock along with a bit of black.  The ribbon is Kraft Taffeta and it’s pulled through a Vanilla ribbon slide from the Hodgepodge Hardware kit.

Thanks for stopping by.

TESC82 Christmas Candies

September 11th, 2009

Happy Friday!  Looking forward to my Stampin’ Up! Class tonight and looking forward to the weekend.  It’s been a looooong couple of weeks – I hope to have resolution soon and be able to talk about it here.  (I really haven’t felt like blogging much.)  In the meantime I was excited to finally ink up my Sweet Centers set and play with Sweet Treat Cups.

tesc82-sweets-ornament-jami-custom.jpg

My original thought followed Taylor’s sketch very closely since I generally take sketches pretty literally, but the final version of the card veered from the sketch just a bit.  When I went to the store today I intended to get Red Hots to make this card, but they didn’t have any so I ended up with Skittles (I picked out the red ones).  The red Skittles (btw – I determined that 13 was the optimal number to use) seem to work best with Riding Hood Red.  The dp is Christmas Cocoa Specialty.  This particular sheet has a pearly metallic sheen in kind of pewter color – not quite silver and not quite gold – very pretty!

I used the Spellbinders Curved Rectangles for the image panel and matting.  I wanted to keep it really simple, but felt like it needed something.  Taylor’s Tiny Twinkles were the perfect little sparkly touch.

I hope you’ll play along with the TESC with us this week.  You can see Taylor’s sample and get all the deets to play by hopping over to her blog.  And be sure to take a look at what the rest of the Sketch Crew has created as well:

I’m also excited to introduce Sweet Centers to my class tonight.  We’ll be making a Halloween card.

This card is 4.25″ square and this time I used Halloween M&M’s (the optimal number of M&M’s seems to be 17.)  I decided to tear the Green Galore layer for a little more *spooky* look.  The image is stamped in Lovely Lilac ink.  Of course the color scheme is taken from the M&M’s. Super simple, but really cute I think.

Hope you have a fantastic weekend.  Thanks for stopping by.

    Stampin’ Up! Class Preview

    September 10th, 2009

I have a Stampin’ Up! Class coming up Friday night and here’s one of the projects we’ll be creating.

    sweet-thoughts-class-sept-09-jami-custom.jpg

This is a little notepad (slightly smaller than 3″ x 6″) I found at Big Lots awhile back.  It’s decorated very simply with Razzleberry Lemonade dp and Razzleberry ribbon along with an image from Wandering Words stamped on Shimmer White cardstock.  We’ll be making a beaded pen to match.  Beaded pens have been one of my favorite projects for several years.  The addition of a beaded pen makes any little notebook type gift really special.  And they are so quick and easy to make!  I was excited when SU started to carry the sticky sheets in 12×12 as I love using those for all types of beading projects.

    Thanks for stopping by.

    TESC80 Rub on Ornament

    August 28th, 2009

Happy Friday!  I think if it weren’t for Taylor’s Sketch Challenges I might not stamp at all lately.  It’s a combination of being Summer (I have never stamped as much in the Summer as other times of year), being busy with all the home improvement and organization projects, and the biggest factor by far is the hurricane aftermath known as my stamp room.  I still have less than 5 square inches to stamp in and I can’t find anything at the moment.  It’s so bad that I really almost bowed out this week, but I have a bunch of SU Holiday Mini preview stuff and I really did want to play.  So I kept it really simple and used the Holiday Lounge dp still out on my desk from last week.  LOL!

    tesc80-ornament-jami-09-custom.jpg

I used the rub-ons from the Holiday Mini on Ruby Red cardstock and punched it out with the new ornament punch.  I added a rhinestone brad and Riding Hood Red taffeta bow.  Super simple – so much so that I might whip up a batch of 10 or so of these when I get started making Christmas cards in earnest this year.

Now let’s see what the rest of the Sketch Crew has cooked up:

  • Jackie Pedro
  • Lynn Mercurio

  • I hope you’ll play along with us as well.  If you didn’t see my last post, be sure to scroll down and watch the 2 minute video.  So simple, so sweet and so true.  You’ll be glad you took a couple of minutes out for it!  Thanks for stopping by!

    Passing the Torch

    embossing-guns-jami-09-custom.jpg

Last week in the middle of my Stampin’ Up! Class on clear emboss resist my trusty and well-loved embossing gun died!  Oh the horror!  My wonderful hubby to the rescue with some industrial heat tool from the garage, but I was devasted to lose my old friend.  My Milwaukee heat tool had been given to me by my best friend Ruth when I very first got interested in stamping almost 15 years ago.  Her mom had taken a couple of stamping classes, bought a bunch of stuff, decided she wasn’t going to use it and passed it all to Ruth who didn’t want it.  I can’t tell you how excited I was to open that box as a brand new stamper and find that embossing gun among the many treasures.  Oh the hours I have spent with that tool!  I wanted another one just like it, but being an SU! Demo I decided it was time for me to get an SU! heat tool.  It arrived just in time for me to make this card for Taylor’s sketch today – TESC78.

    tesc78-santa-jami-custom.jpg

Along with my heat tool I received my pre-order for the upcoming Holiday Mini.  Customers should be receiving the Mini’s in the next week or so and you’ll be able to order from it on September 1st.  I wasted no time in putting together Wandering Words for today’s challenge.  I decided to pair it with the oh-so-fun SU! Holiday Lounge dp.  Santa’s sleigh was stamped with white craft ink and embossed (with my brand new heat gun) with white embossing powder on Taken with Teal cardstock.  The moon is Sahara Sand cardstock that has been painted with another product from the Holiday Mini – Shimmer Paint.  You probably can’t really see the pretty shimmer in the photo.  The sentiment is from a new rub-on set in the Mini called Merry & Bright.  I finished it off with some teal KaiserCraft rhinestones.

    TESC77 Circus Birthday

    August 7th, 2009

Happy Friday!  It’s time for another one of Taylor’s fun sketch challenges and I hope you’ll play along with us.  For those of you regular players please note a slight change in the keyword to TESC77 instead of TECC77 when uploading to SCS or PCP.  We’ve always said *cupcakes not required* but not everyone believed us, so Taylor has changed the challenge name to the Taylored Expressions Sketch Challenge to eliminate any confusion for players.

This sketch was just what I needed for my 3rd class project for tonight.  I was planning to use Circle Circus for a card and lo and behold TESC77 was perfect!

I had the layout all worked out with the stamps and sketch, but was having trouble settling on a color combo.  Then I remembered what I often tell my customers – when you need a good color combo look at the Designer Paper section of the SU Catty.  Sure enough the color tesc77-circle-circus-jami-09-custom.jpgcombo of Pink Flamingo dp was just the feeling I was looking for – Real Red, Cameo Coral, Tempting Turquoise, and Summer Sun.  The Coral panel was embossed with the SU Finial Press embossing folder.  This 4.25″ square card is SUO (Stampin’ Up! Only).

Now let’s see what the rest of the Sketch Crew has cooked up for us this week:

  • Some of you know about the ordeal we had with the vet’s office after picking up Tessa last Friday and finding out later in the day that she had not had the pain meds she was supposed to get that morning (her surgery was the previous day and she had spent the night there).  She had a really rough couple of days – poor little thing.  She started showing improvement in Sunday, but it was really just last night that she started acting like herself again and I was able to take her on a short walk.  I love that silly little dog so much and it’s been a rough week around here.  Looking forward to fun at class tonight.

Oh and I can’t forget the home improvement update:  My valance is still not back from the cleaners and I forgot to call the guy yesterday to find out what’s up since he said *a couple of days* a week ago Wednesday.  *eye roll*  We got our new mirror up over the fireplace – it’s so pretty!  I’ve done little stuff like purchase throw rugs for the kitchen and bathroom.  The to-do list is still pretty long, but we’ll get there!  🙂  Curt has been out of town on Rocket Scientist Business (seriously!) and I’m really looking forward to having him home!

    Thanks for stopping by.

    August Class Preview #2

    August 6th, 2009

Friday is quickly approaching and I’m looking forward to my monthly Stampin’ Up! Class and beginning a brand new round of Club.  The project I’m previewing today was inspired by one of my Club members – Barbara.  She’s so sweet and has made a couple of really adorable tags for me that I cherish .  She used photos of Curt and I and of Tessa from my blog and both tags are on my frig.  I thought it would be fun to do a tag project for class.

    aug-class-tags-jami-09-custom.jpg

I purchased this pack of SU chipboard sometime in the last year, but had never used it.  This is the perfect opportunity.  Chipboard birdie and owl are covered with Cottage Walls designer paper and the extra pieces were inked with Old Olive Craft ink.  Some of them were then clear embossed and some just left to dry.  The tags themselves are just 2 layers of cardstock (Old Olive and Orchid Opulence).  The finished size is 6 3/4″ X 3 3/4″.  Each person at class will be free to copy one of these tags exactly or play with the supplies any way they’d like.  It should be fun!  Registration is closed for this Friday, but if you’d like to be on my customer mailing list for future classes please shoot me an e-mail with *SU Class Info* in the title.  My classes are usually the first or second Friday of each month and I occasionally hold a Wednesday or Thursday afternoon class.

    Thanks for stopping by.
