Passing the Torch
August 14th, 2009
Last week in the middle of my Stampin’ Up! Class on clear emboss resist my trusty and well-loved embossing gun died! Oh the horror! My wonderful hubby to the rescue with some industrial heat tool from the garage, but I was devasted to lose my old friend. My Milwaukee heat tool had been given to me by my best friend Ruth when I very first got interested in stamping almost 15 years ago. Her mom had taken a couple of stamping classes, bought a bunch of stuff, decided she wasn’t going to use it and passed it all to Ruth who didn’t want it. I can’t tell you how excited I was to open that box as a brand new stamper and find that embossing gun among the many treasures. Oh the hours I have spent with that tool! I wanted another one just like it, but being an SU! Demo I decided it was time for me to get an SU! heat tool. It arrived just in time for me to make this card for Taylor’s sketch today – TESC78.
Along with my heat tool I received my pre-order for the upcoming Holiday Mini. Customers should be receiving the Mini’s in the next week or so and you’ll be able to order from it on September 1st. I wasted no time in putting together Wandering Words for today’s challenge. I decided to pair it with the oh-so-fun SU! Holiday Lounge dp. Santa’s sleigh was stamped with white craft ink and embossed (with my brand new heat gun) with white embossing powder on Taken with Teal cardstock. The moon is Sahara Sand cardstock that has been painted with another product from the Holiday Mini – Shimmer Paint. You probably can’t really see the pretty shimmer in the photo. The sentiment is from a new rub-on set in the Mini called Merry & Bright. I finished it off with some teal KaiserCraft rhinestones.
Let’s see what the rest of the Sketch Crew has cooked up for us this week:
I hope you’ll check out the challenge on Taylor’s blog and play along with us! Thanks for stopping by. Have a great weekend!

I am laughing because this is EXACTLY how I got my heat tool… My girlfriend Jill’s mom bought it – passed it to Jill who, in turn, thought I might make better use of it than either of them. 🙂 Only it was 1999 – so not quite 15 years. 😉
Cute card! Love that silhouette of the sleigh image.

I just got my second heat tool from SU, as my 2003 SU model just died while doing a Stamp-a-Stack. There were still 4 ladies to use it! I really don’t think we could have finished those cards with the heat of a lightbulb! One of the ladies lived nearby, so she had to try describe what to look for to her husband who would bring it over. WOW! That was a hoot. (Really funny, as she wasn’t sure of its location and he was VERY unfamiliar with the heat tool!) About 1 1/2 hours later my heat gun worked again. It must have just overheated. Needless to say, now I have a backup!

Oh you bad girl. I’ve been waiting to place my mini catalog order and now you’ve made me want things I didn’t think I wanted. Love the color combo.

I know this is an old post, but….Oh my gosh! That is the same embossing gun I have (Milwaukee)!! I was in a mall in Delaware and there was a stamping Kisosk there, she introduced me to embossing and I was hooked! Bought the gun, and the powders etc. And it took me forever to figure it out once I got home. Anyway….that was in 1992. And my gun is still going strong…20 years later! It may be bulky, and not very pretty, but ti’s still my favorite. I do have Stampin’ Up’s heat tool now as well, but the Milwaulee one has a special place on my craft table! 🙂
