TE Release Party Continues

June 30th, 2012

The July Release for Taylored Expressions is in full swing as all the new products are available in the Fresh Out of the Oven Department. I get to play along with the Baker’s Dozen for one more day of inspiration showcasing all the new stamp sets.

My sample today features Under the Sea, a full-size set illustrated by Nancy McKinney for the Whimsical Wishes collection.  If you saw my post a few days ago that described my previous week, you’ll understand why I needed to make these cards for a few people!  LOL!

And the inside:

I wanted a mostly white card, so I started by stamping the seaweed image repeatedly on the bottom of a Choice Snow White panel and coloring with Copics.  Then I ran it through my Big Shot with the bubbles side of the new Waves/Bubbles Impression Plate before applying Diamond Stickles for plenty of sparkle.

I stamped the crab and colored him with Copics. I used Spellbinders Labels 1 and Labels 1 Small to cut and layer the image as well as for the sentiment inside.  I love having both sets for tighter layering.

Once the regular sized card was done, I realized I should make a couple more, so I created tiny little notecard versions. I think I only spend about 15 minutes making the mini pair to go with little candy gifts.  I only had a chance to snap a quick Instagram photo before taking these info the office.

You may have noticed that I’m on a real kick of using these fun little sparkly embellishments – Pebbles Crystal Candy Dots and Queen & Co. Goosebumps.  At first glance in the store it might be a little hard to tell how they are different, so I made a short little video comparing the two.  Both are self-adhesive and sparkly and FUN.  I used the Goosebumps on the card above and the Candy Dots on my Coconut Cove that I posted on Thursday (and you’ll see it in the video.)  You might find you prefer one over the other or, like me, might find you need them both in several colors!  😉  Check them out!

Thanks for stopping by today.  I hope you are having a great weekend!  We have the dishwasher repairman coming this afternoon to see if it can be repaired or is we need a new one.  It was one of the appliances fried in the power surge last week.  Washing dishes by hand takes a lot of time!

All of the new Taylored Expressions products for July are NOW AVAILABLE in the Fresh Out of the Oven Department!  And I get to join the Baker’s Dozen again today in showcasing all of the new stamp sets.  I have two cards to show you.

First up is another card featuring Coconut Cove – a mini set concepted by yours truly and illustrated by Doug Applegate as part of the Apple Doodle Ink line at TE.

For this card I wanted to create more of a twilight beach scene with the tiki torches.  I stamped the tiki torches first and then masked them and stamped the beach hut and palm tree so they would appear behind the torches.  The beach and sky were sponged with inks.  I used the Wave Taylored Die at the bottom, cut twice from patterned paper with the bottom one popped up on foam dots.  The paper is from the Echo Park Paradise Beach pad.

Both of my cards today include my favorite design touch – a bit of black.

Next up is a fun card featuring Under the Sea by Nancy McKinney.  This stamp set has soooooo many possiblities!  As soon as I saw the set, I knew I wanted to created an underwater scene.

I stamped a bunch of images from the set onto watercolor paper and then colored with an aquapainter and SU inks.  But here’s the really cool part – once the watercolor was dry, I covered the whole panel with Versamark ink direct to paper and then with kaliedescope embossing powder and heat embossed the whole thing.  It’s sparkly and just slightly hazy like water would be.

You might have noticed the embellishments I used on these two cards.  At first glance they might look the same, but they are actually quite different and I have a little video ready to show you tomorrow to compare the Queen & Co. Goosebumps to the Pebbles Crystal Candy Dots. They are both really cool.  I hope you drop by tomorrow to see my short little video.

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you’re enjoying all the new goodies.  The Baker’s Dozen will have more inspiration tomorrow and Saturday.

Welcome to Sneak Peek Day for the Taylored Expressions July Release. We’re doing things a little differently this month as we release July products while it’s still June and as we have only one day of peeks before Release Day tomorrow, followed up by two more days of blog inspiration!  Today the Baker’s Dozen is showing off ALL the new sets that will be released tomorrow.
And you have a chance to win a gift certificate to the TE Store just by leaving comments on the blogs today.  Be sure to read all the way to the end for your chance to win!
I have a sample to show you featuring the latest set in the Adorable Abodes series illustrated by Doug Applegate as part of the Apple Doodle Ink collection.  The latest set is Coconut Cove and it’s all about Summer, the beach, and kicking back!  I think this is my favorite so far!
I knew I wanted to work with the Echo Park Paradie Beach 6×6 pad and I found this awesome pattern in the pad and stamped my little beach hut and palm trees directly on the EP paper!  I colored it with Copics and added some Diamond Stickles.  I layered the patterned paper onto some dark red carstock and distressed the edges before mounting onto a kraft card base.  Super simple.  And I have another card made with this set ready to show you tomorrow.  Such a fun set to play with!  Now here’s a quick run-down on this week at TE.

June Class

June 26th, 2012

Happy Tuesday! So last week was really crazy!  A quick run-down: Wednesday early afternoon I ended up in tears at work (yes it can happen even in a job you love and even at a church, although I must say it had nothing to do with anyone from our church), Wednesday later afternoon the copier broke again just when we needed to run bulletins and programs for the weekend. Thursday (the day I’m supposed to get off work at 12:30) the copier tech didn’t come until 11:00 am and didn’t finish until after 3:30 at which point the choir aide needed the copier.  Curt had a doctor’s appointment in the afternoon at which time he found out that he has 2 new kidney stones and will need another lythotripsy procedure.  🙁 Thursday night I went back to work and didn’t get home till 9:30 pm. *deep breath*  Thursday night/Friday morning at 2:30 a.m. we had a huge power surge and then a power outage which fried our microwave, dishwasher, air conditioner and some other things.  Friday night I taught stamp class (started creating samples and prepping at 1:00 in the afternoon.)  Saturday was somewhat of a quiet day and then Sunday we had church in the morning and in the afternoon thCurt participated in the church Patriotic Musical as well as performing in the Old-Timey Gospel Band (on mandolin) during the BBQ that followed.

*PHEW*  Am I ever thankful that Pastor Jeff gave me yesterday off, so I could get some bills paid and get caught up on some things!

Now, on to what this post is really all about…the class I held Friday night.  I just wanted to share the projects we created.  First up is a pretty card featuring Forever in Bloom from Taylored Expressions.

We used shimmery white cardstock and colored the image with SU water-based markers directly on the rubber before stamping.  The background panel was run through the Cuttlebug with a Sizzix embossing folder and then aged with Tim Holtz Antique Linen Distress ink.

Our second project featured my newest TE set Bikes & Trikes along with Echo Park Dots & Stripes 6×6 papers.  🙂 (I say “my” because it was my concept, wonderfully illustrated by Emily Burger!!)

The girls had a choice of which image they preferred and also which sentiment.  A lot of my girls don’t care much for coloring, so most of them chose the old-fashioned trike.  We also used the grass border and cloud duo Taylored Dies along with Spellbinders circle dies.

I messed up this sample as the sentiment should have been on the left to balance out the clouds on the right.  I had to tell the girls to “do as I say, not as I do!”  LOL!  I love how the black in this design makes the card pop – my old adage…when you’re not sure what to do, fall back on black!

The idea for these 2 cards came from one by my friend Melody Rupple. I absolutley LOVED this card she created and had to figure out how to adapt it to make it work with supplies I had for class.

It was so great to see almost all of my regular students Friday.  I had missed teaching a class in May and even though I was pretty spent on Friday night after a crazy week, I wouldn’t have missed it!  I’ll be back tomorrow with a sneak peek of the TE July release which is happening early!  Please come see me tomorrow. 🙂

I’m happy to be back, playing along with the Baker’s Dozen again today as we preview a gorgeous new set from Nancy McKinney for the Whimsical Wishes line – Forever in Bloom.  This full sized set includes 16 images and sentiments centered around beautiful hydrangea blooms in both solid and open line forms.  Hydrangeas are probably my 2nd favorite flowers, right after roses so I have really been looking forward to this set!

For my card today, I decided to keep it really simple and just showcase the largest solid bloom.

It really doesn’t get much easier than that, does it?  Simple elegance!  Love it!  Of course there is also a set of dies to cut out the blooms, so the possibilities are endless.  Here are some of the supplies I used to create this card.

Pink Versamagic ink, Old Olive SU classic ink, Memento Tuxedo Black ink, shimmery white cs (my fave!) along with black and Pretty in pink cs, some pink satin ribbon, my faithful stamp-a-majig, Diamond Stickles, black Goosebumps.

Now let’s see what the Baker’s Dozen has cooked up today:

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you’re enjoying the peeks!  Tomorrow is Release Day and everything will be available for purchase at 8 am PST.

I am so excited to be playing along with the Baker’s Dozen today because the new stamp we are showcasing, Bikes & Trikes, is one of my concepts.  I presented the idea to Taylor quite awhile ago, so I was especially pleased when she decided to go ahead with it and handed it over to to the fabulous Emily Burger to illustrate as part of the Embracing Grace collection at TE.  I’m so tickled with how it turned out and I can hardly wait to see what each of the girls have come up with.
I have two cards to share today, because both of these ideas have been floating around in my head since before the set was even a reality.  The first card is what I consider my typical style.  Patterned papers are from the Cosmo Cricket Baby Jane 6×6 pad and I’ve paired them with Kraft cardstock and some of those luscious Prima Laraine flowers that I just can’t setp away from!
The vinatge bike was stamped with white pigment ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder onto kraft cardstock.  Then I die cut it with a Spellbinders Labels 10 die and did a little sponging inside the die.  The sentiment was stamped right onto the patterned paper and the little jewels are Queen & Co. Goosebumps…so so so sparkly! Here’s some o fthe supplies I used.
For my second card, I decided to go SUPER OLD SCHOOL.
I pulled out several things I haven’t used in eons, starting with the Fabriano notecard.  C’mon…’fess up!  How many of you have a stash of these hoarded somewhere deep in your stamp room?  They were all the rage a few years ago and truthfully I do love them.  I embossed the tandem bike with black pigment ink and clear embossining powder and then I grabbed another too-long-unused supply – my Luminarte Twinkling H2O’s.  Ok I know A LOT of you must have these little pots of goodness stashed away.  I chose 3 colors and painted them over the bike for an artsy look.  {It’s artsy, right??? LOL!}  And then I had to grab one more old school item – gingham ribbon.  There was a time when I just couldn’t keep enough black gingham ribbon on hand because I used it on everything!  I haven’t used it in quite some time, but yep…I still like it!
So there you have 2 cards with the same stamp set and similar color palettes, but totally different looks.  I hope you like Bikes & Trikes.  I think it has a ton of possibilties.  And you’ll see that you’ll have opportunities to color as well as go solid (like I did here.)  Let’s see what the Baker’s Dozen has cooked up:
I apologize for the weird formatting today – no spaces and some photos centered and some not.  Sometimes my blog acts goofy and no amount fiddling seems to fix it.   Sometimes it happily cooperates, but not today! Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you’re having a great week!
