World Card Making Day

October 6th, 2012

So much going on with Taylored Expressions this week, with the release and new challenges starting over in our Member Company Forum on SCS, and now it’s World Card Making Day.  So, some TE friends are getting together today for one more hop – a bit of a free-for-all.  As I mentioned earlier in the week, I made so many cards with the Nativity Border Die that I couldn’t share them all at once.  So I have two more to show you today.

For this first one, I die cut the nativity out of a thick teal glitter cardstock I picked up at Michael’s (just like the silver I used earlier in the week.)  The patterned paper in the background is from a 6×6 pad – Echo Park Very Merry.  The sentiment is from the Rejoice stamp set and it was heat embossed with black pigment ink and kaleidescope embossing powder for a beautiful sparkle.

Next I paired the Nativity Border with a layered window created with the Label Stacklets 1 die set.

I decided to try a really neutral color palette for this one – ivory shimmer cardstock with kraft and black.  Each layer is a recessed window.  The nativity (cut from black and sprizted with Perfect Pearls) is attached to the card base.  The multiple layers of windows are attached together and then adhered to the cardbase with foam tape for a lot of dimension.  I added dots of black stickles around the black label  window and cream liquid pearls to the front of the card.  I will add a sentiment from Rejoice to the inside.

Will you be stamping today for World Card Making Day, or any day this week?  Be sure to check out the Stamp’n’Send Challenge hosted by Taylored Expressions this week on SCS.   For EVERY card you create following the challenge requirements,
you will be entered into this week’s prize drawing. PLUS, for EVERY entry, you will also be entered into the Grand Prize drawing for an amazing prize package worth $100!  Today’s challenge involves a sketch from Jen Shults and I know that at least a couple of the girls in today’s hop will have samples to share.  So let’s get hopping and see what the rest of the girls have to show us!

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Happy World Card Making Day!

All of the new products for October were released yesterday at Taylored Expressions.  You can find it all in the Fresh Out of the Oven Department.  Be sure to check out the Current Specials page also to find out about discounted bundles and kits.  We have another day of inspiration for you today as we highlight ALL the new stamps and dies.  You’ll want to be sure to hop to each and every blog so you don’t miss a thing!

First up, I have a card featuring the new JOY A la Carte stamp with the Holly Cutting Plate and Labels Stacklets 1 Die set.  Just a simple, sweet card –

I used the Holly Cutting Plate on shimmery white cardstock and layered it over patterned paper and a cardbase from the Merry & Bright Project Pantry. The holly was embellished with little dots of Thistle Stickles for the berries.  The JOY stamp was heat embossed on shimmery white with black pigment ink and kaleidescope embossing powder and then watercolored.  It was die cut with Labels Stacklets 1.

Next I have another card featuring the Nativity Die.  I told you, I just couldn’t put this down and will have more cards to share tomorrow showcasing this die.  This time I cut it out of black cardstock and sprayed it with some Biscotti Perfect Pearls Mist (it looks speckled in the photo, but IRL it looks shimmery).  The cardbase is a shimmery ivory cardstock and the Nativity Die cut is layered onto a River Rock panel that was embossed with a cuttlebug folder.  The sentiment is from the Rejoice stamp set and it was heat embossed with black pigment ink and kaleidescope embossing powder.  A little row of liquid pearls finishes it off.  Have I mentioned just how much I love this die?  *swoon*

I plan to make the majority of our Christmas cards with this die and I’m playing with designs to see just what I want to make over and over again!  There are so many possibilities!

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Happy Friday.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend ahead that includes some time to stamp!

Welcome to the Taylored Expressions October Sneak Peeks. All the products being previewed this week will be available in the TE Store on Thursday morning at 8:00 a.m. PST.  We have another really big release for you and a lot of it focuses on Christmas.  For this reason, the October Release is always my favorite one of the whole year!  I’m excited to play along with the Baker’s Dozen today as we all have 2 or more projects to show you, which feature a variety of new stamps and dies.  So let’s get right to it!

All three of my cards today are based on the same simple layout and feature the new Labels Stacklets 1 Taylored Dies. This is a beautiful set of stacking dies with a super versatile shape as you’ll see below.

My first card showcases an incredible new die – Nativity BorderWow – talk about falling in love! I actually made 5 cards with this die before I could move on to anything else.  I’ll have to share the rest later, but you’ll see several examples of it in the hop today.  The die actually reaches across an entire cardfront, but I only used a portion of it in my Stacklets frame today.  Super simple card using Pale Plum and Shimmery White cardstock along with silver glitter cardstock that I just couldn’t resist while standing in line the last time I was at Michael’s. The white background panel was embossed with a cuttlebug folder.

We have a new all-sentiment set, called Rejoice which also works wonderfully with the Nativity Border.  Although I didn’t use it on the front of the card above, it will go on the inside.  And I’ve used it on my next card. It’s full of beautiful Christmas and holiday sentiment combinations.  It’s really a must-have if you plan to make Christmas cards!

With this release, Taylor is introducing a new die product called Cutting Plates.  These are dies sized 5.25″ x 4″ so the cut pattern will layer perfectly onto a card front.  The first one I’m showing is the Holly Cutting PlateIsn’t it gorgeous? I die cut it out of Garden Green cardstock and added red liquid pearls for the berries and some green stickles to highlight the leaves.  The cardbase and sentiment panel are a shimmery ivory cardstock – very elegant – and I heat embossed the sentiment with red pigment ink and clear embossing powder.  A simple satin bow finishes it off.

My third card departs from Christmas, to show you a super cute year-round stamp set.

This new set is called Best Nests and it was illustrated by Nancy McKinney for the Whimsical Wishes collection.  Nancy and I are kindred spirits in our love of birds and I know she had me in mind when she was working on this set – specifically with this image.  I have two incredible macaws and the one above looks much like my Green Wing, R.B. *grin*, so of course that had to be the first image in the set that I would ink up!  Just wait till you see the other samples from this set.  There are bird houses for every season included.

My card also features another new Cutting Plate – Quatrefoil.  Pretty, huh?  I cut it from kraft cardstock and layered it over a pice of kraft cardstock the same size that had been impressed with the Woodgrain Impression Plate.  I also used the Grass and Wave Border dies along with the new Stacklets.  My image was colored with copics and I sponged the sunset background.  Some ribbon, stickles, and liquid pearls are the finishing touches.

So, there you have three very different cards using the same basic layout.  I might never put these Stacklets away!  Now let’s see what the Baker’s Dozen has cooked up for today:
