Last night was my monthly Stampin’ Up! Class.  We usually do one or two new techniques and attendees get too make a technique reference card for their cardstock rings along with the stamped project.  Last night we tried Spotlighting and I think everyone loved the result.  Here’s the card we made.

There is a wonderful Spotlighting Tutorial on SCS (click here to view it) so I won’t try to reinvent the wheel by explaining it again here.  We used SU Metallic Art Pencils and a blender pen to do our coloring on Confetti White cardstock.  It was a really fun alternative to the watercoloring I usually do.  I always think of hummingbirds as having that irrdiscent sheen so the metallic pencils seemed appropriate.  I didn’t have enough of any brads that might match the card, so we used a white gel pen for a faux brad look.  I haven’t used Sage Shadow very much lately, but I really do like the soft look of it – especially with the contrast of the black.

The next card we made was a CASE from page 148 of the catalog.  I only changed the colors to Soft Sky and Chocolate Chip.  I marked that page the first week I got the catalog knowing I wanted to use that card in a class – I just loved it!

This is so classy! I love it! I don’t have any of these stamps, but I might have to try to make something similar! I need more Sympathy cards.

These are both great cards and must have left your group very inspired. The second card is one I’ve always admired in the catalog. I love the simple elegance of it and it looks good in your colors. Carte Postale is such a beautiful set.

Dog gone it! I wish I lived closer. I’d love to be in one of your classes. I’ve got the hummingbird set and never thought to spotlight it, but I think I will now. The Carte Postale is just gorgeous, and yet so simple, for a sympathy card. Wow.
