So I wasn’t on tv….

January 3rd, 2008

Happy New Year a little late!

Curt has been sick with a cold for a week and that same cold has been chasing me.  I thought I may have beaten it, but it hit full force last night…just in time for me to go back to work today after almost 2 weeks off.  Ugh.

Yesterday we had tickets to see the Craig Ferguson Show taped.  His show comes on after Letterman and we find him quite amusing.  We used to dvr the show so we could watch during dinner and  we attended a taping last year and really enjoyed it…so when we got an e-mail from the show saying they were starting up taping again (first time since the writer’s strike began) we jumped at the chance to go during our vaction.  Unfortunately after arriving on time and standing in line we found that they had overbooked the show and there was no room for us.  They offered us front row seats to come back today, but as I said, I need to work today…and I don’t think I would feel like going anyway.

So there we were stuck in Hollywood/L.A. right at rush hour.  If you know what traffic is like here, you know why we did NOT want to get on the freeway!  Instead we headed over to Universal City Walk (gotta love that new TomTom to get us there) for dinner and a movie.  Dinner was at Bubba Gump’s Shrimp Co. for a new experience for us.  Food was good, although I found the restaurant just a little too *themey* – like eating at a Disney attraction.  The movie was I am Legend starring Will Smith (who I love!).  I was worried it would be like Castaway with Tom  Hanks – some guy all alone – ugh I HATED that movie.  Well it was nothing like that!  It was SCARY!  It was probably the scariest movie I’ve seen in a theater in a really long time.  I don’t so scary.  It was well-written (with the exception of one thing that really bugs me – but I don’t want to ruin it for you), well-acted, good special effects….but it bordered on being almost too intense for me.  This is NOT a movie for kids IMO.  If you’ve seen the movie let me know what you thought of it.

So with the combination of being sick and having seen that movie I has nightmares all night!  I guess I’m just a little grumpy this morning.

Tomorrow night I have my first Stampin’ Up! class of the new year and I’m really looking forward to it.  I already have the projects planned – just need to cut and prep everything.  Here’s one of the projects we’ll be making – a mini purse that can be used as a party favor or to hold a gift card or other small gift.

I got the idea for this from the door prize I won at the SCS dinner in Portland – it came from Shannon McMaster – thanks Shannon!  It starts with a mini white lunch bag.  I discovered that my bags were smaller than hers so I had to scale down my purse a bit from the sample I had. I cut the bag down to a height of 3″ and covered front and back with 2 layers of cardstock (Wild Wasabi and Not Quite Navy) and then designer paper (Porcelain Prints).  Ribbon is River Rock (for the handles) and Wasabi (around the front).  Stamp sets are Big Flowers and Little Flowers.  The Tab punch and Slot punch were used to make the handles.  This is a really fun little project with endless possibilities.

I’m off to work.  Thanks for stopping by!

Cute purse – love the colors! Hope you’re feeling better soon – we’ve been hit hard with that cold/virus here too. My 14 1/2 y.o. saw I am Legend yesterday afternoon – he loves scary movies and even he said it was very scary/disturbing – even so, he really liked the movie.

I really enjoyed I Am Legend – there were a few things I wished they had expanded upon (“their” thinking capabilites and whatnot) but overall I thought it was really good (and yes scarier than I thought it would be! I was shocked at the people that brought their kids – some of them were around 4 years old! I would NOT bring my kids to a movie like that!).

Jami… Stephen saw I Am Legend last week and was freaked out too. He doesn’t do scary movies well, but being 16, I think he got pushed by peer pressure to see it. I think I’ll wait for the DVD so I can see it with the lights on! 🙂 Can’t wait for class tomorrow night!

My 18 yo daughter saw the movie and thought it was wonderful…she likes scary movies, though! (Didn’t get that from -my- genes!!)

Your purse is so cute!! How many people do you usually have at your classes?

I saw that movie on IMAX right before the new year. Talk about intense. I kept grabbing my hubby’s leg. But I can’t figure out that one part that bugged you so now it is bugging me because I want to know!

Adorable purse BTW. That is a good use of the tab punch. I never know what to do with that.

    1. Cute purse/card..love it!

    2. Sorry you missed the show.

    3. Saw The Legend (mind you, 1st day showing and all by myself) and I really didn’t know that it will be a scary movie (that’s why i went all alone). I don’t do scary movies at all and wanted to walk out but i tried to be brave. I was biting a napkin the whole time and jump quite a bit (people around me was laughing but really didn’t care) and that’s one of the reason i didn’t walk out..LOL! Anyway, still love the movie (just made sure my husband went with me to the bathroom at night for a couple of days) and I think i know what part bugged you (it bugged me too) but then again i don’t want to ruin it for people that hasn’t seen it =)

Sorry you didn’t get in the show. I bet a lot of people have been waiting for taping to resume.

I did see I am Legend. I agree, it was scary! My 14 yo son disagrees, but it’s not a movie I would choose if I knew in advance that it would be so intense! I did like it – most of it anyway … there were a few things near the end that bugged me. But in all, it was great, intense and I didn’t sleep well that night either!!

What an adorable purse… Thanks for sharing!!! :O)

    Love your cards!!!
I Am Legend – didn’t like it at all!!!! The premise was a good idea, but it was too dark and there many “problems” with the story.

  18. Shannon Says:

Hey that’s me! 🙂 I actually got the idea from my friend Beth Anderson- so I can’t take full credit for it, but I’m so glad you like it! That was my first dinner/swap outside of my group so I was really nervous about it!!! 🙂 Thanks- and I LOVE what you did with it!!!

  19. STACEY Says:

LOVE, LOVE LOVE, THE PURSE. I AM REALLY WORRIED. GOT I AM LEGEND FOR MY 13.5YO EASTER BASKET. ALTHOUGH THIS IS A KID THAT WATCHED PET SEMETARY (DON’T ASK) AT 3, SO I THINK HE’LL BE OK BUT I GUESS MOM CAN’T WATCH.
