Just A Blog Hop

October 2nd, 2010

Happy World Card Making Day!  I hope you’ve been able to carve out some time to stamp today! 🙂  I’m excited to be hosting a super fun blog hop chock full of wonderfully talented ladies that I’m blessed to call friends.  Over the past few years more and more stampers I know have become involved in different aspects of the *industry* of stamping – design teams, illustration, company rep, even company ownership.  It’s been awesome to see, but with so many deadlines and obligations there can sometimes be a downside – not having as much *pure play time* with stamping…time to just play with whatever products might be calling to you at any given moment.  So everyone was invited to put aside all obligations and just stamp for FUN!  What could be better to celebrate World Card Making Day?

The JUST A BLOG HOP criteria was simple:

*choose a challenge from anywhere

*choose either a new uninked image or an old favorite

*make a card and MAIL IT!

And you are weclome to play along with us!

The challenge I chose was from Flourishes: 1 stamp, 2 looks.  I was so intrigued by what I saw their dt create that I wanted to play too.  The actual challenge  is to use a Flourishes Christmas stamp, but I went a different direction and just used the challenge for inspiration.  I have a brand new (to me) set from Waltzing Mouse that I’ve been dying to ink up and this was the perfect chance to make a couple of friendship/thank you cards I’ve been needing to get mailed out.

So here are my 2 looks with 1 stamp:

The stamped label images on both cards are stamped in Pearlescent chocolate ink and heat embossed with clear ep on designer papers.  The first card features paper from the Girls Paperie that I’ve been hoarding. Those pretty pink roses make me swoon!!!

The second card features the  Crate Paper Restoration collection.  I had fun creating a tile/patchwork pattern of little pieces of different patterns.  I just love the look of the label stamped on that woodgrain paper from the collection! This card is 3.25″ x 6.5″ – a mini tall card.

I almost totally ruined the card while I was trying to make a last minute addition of the Zva crystal swirl.  I love the way those swirls look on cards, but I ALWAYS want to tear my hair out trying to apply them.  Does anyone have any tips for me on that?  When I try they break apart or twist over on themselves, etc etc.

Other than that,  I had a BLAST creating for this hop and I hope all the other girls did too.  I am dying to see what they have to show us,  I know it’s going to be fabulous and I think some of it may be unexpected 😉 …are you ready to hop with me?  Each girl will provide you with a link to the next stop on the hop, but I have the whole road map listed below just in case you get lost along the way:

TESC130 Baby Pink

October 1st, 2010

Happy Friday!  It’s been a busy week and I’m looking forward to getting in a good amount of stamping time tomorrow on World Card Making Day!  To get warmed up how about playing along with us in the Taylored Expressions Sketch Challenge – TESC130?  We’d love to have you join us.

My sketch sample for today is a card for friend and Baker’s Dozen DT member Jodi Collins who had her second little one earlier this week.  You know I was oh-so-happy to go all pink for this sweet little card featuring the original Hangin’ Out stamp set from TE.

Today’s sketch was contributed by Sketch Crew member Rosie Hughes and I followed it pretty literally.  I loved the play of rounded corners with straight corners and the fact that there was a fairly large focal panel to play with (mine is 2.5″ x 3.5″ for reference).  I used TE Choice Snow White cardstock along with patterned paper by Echo Park – Life is Good.  I stamped the baby clothes onto the white cardstock and drew in the clothesline.  Then I sponged clouds (using a scallop oval punch as a template) with SU Blushing Bride ink and a sponge dauber.  I stamped the clothes again on various patterns of the dp and cut them out and paper pieced them.  I added texture with 2 CB folders and the finishing touch is liquid pearls.  Now I just need to get this card in the mail…I don’t why it’s always so much harder to get a card mailed than it is to get a card stamped!  LOL!

Now let’s see what the rest of the Sketch Crew has in store for us today:

  • Alice Wertz
  • Lisa Hjulberg
  • Lori Craig
  • Melissa Sauls
  • Monika Davis
  • Rachel Sztonyk
  • Rosie Hughes
  • Sherrie Siemens
  • Taylor VanBruggen – of course you’ll get the sketch and all the deets to play here.
  • Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you have a great day today and get to stamp tomorrow.  So tell me, what are your plans for World Card Making Day tomorrow?  I hope you’ll stop back by here tomorrow afternoon as I have a little something fun planned that I know you’ll enjoy!
