Divine Design for November

November 8th, 2008

I’m very late in posting today.  We attended a beautiful and very touching wedding today – honestly one of the most beautiful weddings I have ever been to.  I thought it was going to be a quick cake and punch affair, but it turned out to include a lovely dinner so we were there much longer than I expected.   One of the best parts was how many old friends we had an opportunitly to catch up with.  I had hoped to share a couple of photos tonight, but we’re having a problem with the card that was in the camera.  Darn it – I took some nice photos.

Today is the 8th so it’s time for Divine Design.  This month I strayed from my regular pattern of adding a journaling card to my tin.  I had another scripture project that took precedence.  My fellow Bakers Dozen Team member Laurie Schmidlin and her husband had to travel far from home due to their daughter Ali’s illness.  (There’s a thread on SCS with updates here.)  Thankfully they’ve been able to go back home for some time now, but as I was remembering times I have spent long hours in the hospital with family members I was inspired to make a little scripture tin for Laurie.

laurie-tin-verse-set-nov-08-jami-custom.jpg

It’s a little Provo Craft band-aide tin very simply decorated and filled with about 20 verses of encouragement.  Making this tin was a real blessing to me as I e-mailed several wonderful Christian women and asked them to contribute a verse or two they thought would be appropriate for the situation.  I was amazed as the e-mails poured in filled with so many different verses and almost no duplicates.  I’ll list the verses at the end of this post.  If you are in need of some encouragement or comfort you’ll want to read through these verses and rejoice in our God!

A special thank you to all of the ladies who responded to my plea and who not only contributed verses but also have been in prayer for Ali.

Along with the little tin of verses I made up a tin of very simple essentials like a note pad, Purrell, lotion, mints, etc.  All just basic stuff I thought Laurie might find useful to have in her purse while at the hospital or traveling.

Please continue to pray for Ali as they are in a period of waiting right now before they can continue on with further testing or treatment.

Last night was my Christmas Projects class and we all had a blast – at least I hope everyone had a blast. 😉  I’ll share pics of all those projects in the next few days.  Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you’re having a teriffic weekend!

18For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.Romans 8:18

3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort

2 Corinthians 1:3

6Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

13 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:13

The LORD is my rock, my
fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.
He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Psalm 18:2

Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; He will never let the righteous fall.

Psalm 55:22

My comfort in my suffering is this:
Your promise preserves my life.

Psalm 119:50

Shout for joy, O heavens;
rejoice, O earth;
burst into song, O mountains!
For the LORD comforts His
people
and will have compassion on his afflicted ones
.

Isaiah 49:13

29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:29-31

He tends his flock like a
shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms
and carries them close to his heart;
he gently leads those that have young

Isaiah 40:11

So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my

righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Hebrews 4:16

6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

1 Peter 5:6-7

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

1 Peter 1:6-9

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

James 1:12

I cry out to God Most High,
to God, who fulfills {his purpose} for me.

Psalm 57:2

TECC41 Scrappy Penguin

November 7th, 2008

I had to run into Michael’s yesterday to pick up one more package of tea lights for the candle tin project for my class tonight.  While I was there I wanted to get something fun…something I didn’t need, but that would be cute on cards.  C’mon, I mean going to Michael’s is like taking a kid to Toys R Us!  I didn’t have much time so I quickly scanned a Christmas papercrafting display and saw this adorable pad of 8×8 designer paper by me & my big ideas – the ellen holiday collection.  Now I needed more Christmas paper like I need another hole in the head so I picked it up an put it down…until I saw the 30% off sign.  Hehehehehe…yep…had to have it!  So today’s card for Taylor’s sketch is a scrappy card.  The only stamping is the sentiment.

Several of the sheets in this pad have a character (Santa, reindeer or in this case penguin) in the bottom right corner.  And some of the sheets are glittered or flocked like the snowflake pattern on the left side of the card.  I wish you could touch it – it’s yummy!  I added Frosted Lace stickles to the tummy of the penguin.  The sentiment is from a Stampin’ Up! holiday set from last year – Star Studded Season.  The ribbon is American Crafts and was a gift from one of my sweet swappers.  The tiny button-like black brads are also American Crafts.  Cardstock colors are Green Galore and Rose Red.  A super quick card!

To join in the challenge get all the deets on Taylor’s blog.  Let’s go see what the rest of the Cupcake Crew has cooked up:

    Hop on over to the SASI blog to check out Otter – Our Friday Friend.  My big class is tonight and I’m super excited.  I’ll have a full house and we’ll be making four different projects.  I’ll be sharing those next week.  Come on back tomorrow for Divine Design!  Happy Friday!
