Season’s Best Cookbook Folio

November 6th, 2007

My Pampered Chef party is tonight and I wanted to make a special door prize with one of the PC Season’s Best Recipe booklets.  The booklets are 32 pages long and only $1.  Yep only $1!!  I picked up a few at the last PC party I attended with the intention of doing something to make them into little gifts.  I was pretty crunched for time this morning, but I’m pretty happy with what I came up with.

Thanks goodness for the Color Challenge at SCS today to give me the perfect jumping off point – Wild Wasabi, Soft Sky and Ruby Red.  I started with a 12 x 12 piece of textured Wild Wasabi cardstock and folded it into a folio to accomodate the cookbook and a note pad.  Finished size is 5.75 x 9.

I don’t have much time to give all the details right now, but it’s really pretty simple.  The front is decorated with Snow Burst by SU and one of my favorite Ronnie girls (available at eclectic Paperie).  I needed to find a way to keep the left hand section of the fold up flap closed since there wasn’t enough room to seal it off with sticky strip or anything, so I made this tab from a piece of Soft Sky cardstock and rounded the ends with a circle punch.  On the front I added a Build-a-Brad – those things are so cool!

Another cool thing – the little Making Memories tag hanging on the front.  I got a package of these two-sided squishy epoxy tags (Making Memories Sweets – St. Nick) at Target and I can’t wait to have more time to play with them.  The one on the folio says “enjoy the season”.

I’ve gotta run and get this house cleaned up for company tonight.  Thanks for stopping by!

Juggling Penguin

November 3rd, 2007

I’m a sucker for penguins – have been for years!  I actually collected them in college and into my 20’s (mostly stuffed animals and little figurines)  and my very first rubber stamps were penguin images (stamped on envelopes of outgoing mail – LOL!)  I’ve been wanting a cute igloo stamp for a really long time and the funny thing is, I finally got two in the same week.  I got an adorable penguin and an igloo image from Whipper Snapper (still need to ink those up!) and this juggling penguin and igloo from Elzybells.

Isn’t he sooooo CUTE?  I created this card on Wednesday for the Sketch Challenge at SCS, but just had a chance to photograph it today.  One of the suggestions for the sketch was to have the actual card cut slightly smaller and layered onto a flat card base.  I’ve done this in the past and it’s a nice variation on the typical card.  It’s also a great way to conserve if you are a short on a particular color of cardstock, or in this case are using a specialty cardstock.  Here I used StardreamFuse Azalea cardstock for the base layer – it’s a super shimmery/metallic almost Rose Red color and a nice heavy weight.  Unfortunately I just couldn’t get the photo to show the beautiful true color of it.  The actual folding card is made with Paper Trey white cardstock

The little scene was stamped on white shimmer cardstock with Palette Hybrid Noir Black ink and watercolored.  The sky was sponged on with Bashful Blue ink.  The snow was created by tearing and layering pieces of shimmer white cardstock and then some Liquid Applique and Dazzling Diamonds glitter were added.  The igloo was covered with Crystal Effects for that icy look and the ornaments on the tree are Stickles.  I decided the little penguin needed a bit more dimension among the layered snow, so I stamped him again, cut him out and attached him with some foam tape.  His little snowballs are tiny white pom poms purchased at the fabric store.  Of course I had to use some black cardstock layers to make everything pop!  One of my Design Principles – When in doubt…Fall Back on Black!

I fiddled around with all sorts of combinations for the background – at first trying to make it two patterns or colors to be true to the sketch, but in the end I decided on this polka dot from the Celery Designer Prints pad from SU.  The black polka dot ribbon seemed to need to be beefed up a bit so I layered it onto a strip of the Rose Red Designer Prints paper (the argyle pattern).  The final touch is white American Crafts brads.  This little scene just makes me smile!  Hope you enjoy it too.

Quick reminder – if you are interested in ordering anything from Pampered Chef simply go to my friend Darla’s website https://www.pamperedchef.biz/darlasdiner and you can view the entire catalog as well as place your order right there.  It will be shipped directly to you.  Simply put “Jami Sibley” as the hostess when you are asked if you were invited to a party.  Might as well knock out a few Christmas gifts or get yourself a few things to help out with all the holiday kitchen chores coming up…and all while you sit at your computer in your PJs.  *wink*  I just need all orders in by Tuesday afternoon November 6th.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend.  Thanks for stopping by.

Can socks make you happy?

November 1st, 2007

No really…can they?  Can something as simple as socks make you happy?

As paper crafters I’m sure many of you share my tactile (touchy-feely) nature and are effected greatly by texture.  Today I wore the softest, comfiest socks ever and I swear they made me happy! 🙂  Perhaps it was the cooler weather that encouraged me to slip into jeans and a long sleeve “t” this morning that made me happy…or the fact that it’s the 1st of November which has always been one of my favorite months (we got married in November).  Or maybe it was my pink Converse tennies after months and months of only wearing sandals.  But honestly, several times today at work I became aware of my feet luxuriating in the softest socks ever and I felt happy!  Maybe I should run back to Penny’s tomorow and pick up a bunch more of those socks!

Speaking of soft and comfy, I love to hang around the house in flannel PJ bottoms and a t-shirt!  It’s better than sweat pants any day!  So…when I saw this Ronnie stamp “In My PJs” over at eclectic Paperie I just had to have it.

Isn’t she so cute with her bunny slippers and cup o’ joe?  I had a bunch of scraps of SU Designer Prints Paper in Almost Amethyst out on my table from another project I had just completed (to be shared here soon) and I was inspired to do some paper piecing by my friend Jen who came over to stamp with me the other day.  Paper piecing is one of my favorite techniques and those scraps seemed just perfect for this.  Of course her bunny slippers had to be pink! (Would it surprise you if I told you I only wear pink slippers?)

Another one of my favorite techniques is “simple tole” to make things on a card dimensional.  So I stamped her cup a second time, colored it and popped it up on some foam tape.  Then I covered it with Crystal Effects and added just a touch of cinnamon Stickles for the coffee.  I couldn’t seem to get a good picture of the whole card showing the dimension on the cup so I took a close up…

Anyway it’s way cooler IRL!  LOL!

I masked her feet and stamped a little celery rug using the Memory Box Mega Oval stamp.  The celery card base was stamped with the SU Paisley background in celery ink and then the little strips of amethyst designer paper were added.  The card was finished off with some pixie pink twill and Queen & Co. brads.

I don’t  have the sentiment that goes with this image yet (it’s on my next eP order), so I decided I will stamp the inside with my Karen Foster Snap stamps to read

“Hmmm…go to work or call in sick and stamp?”

I bet none of you have ever thought that have you?  *wink*  It’s Thursday night as I type this, but I’ll say thanks for stopping by and Happy Friday!
